• China and Myanmar are connected by mountains and rivers and have a long history of cultural exchanges. According to historical records, the friendly exchanges between China and Myanmar began in the Han Dynasty. During the prosperous Tang Dynasty, the prince of Piao in Myanmar led musicians to visit Chang'an, the ancient capital of China. The famous poet Bai Juyi was moved by it and wrote the eternal song "Piao Guoyue". After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the friendly relations between China and Myanmar have continued to develop, and cultural exchanges have become increasingly frequent. During China's National Day in 1960, Prime Minister U Nu led a friendship delegation of more than 400 people composed of culture, art, and film delegations to visit China and held the "Myanmar Culture Week" in Beijing. During Myanmar’s Independence Day in January 1961, Premier Zhou Enlai led a delegation of more than 530 people from culture, art, and film to visit Myanmar and held the “Chinese Film Week” in Yangon. The leaders of the two countries led such a large friendly delegation to visit each other, which fully reflected the "Paukphaw" friendship between China and Myanmar and became a good story in the history of cultural exchanges between the two countries. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 70 years ago, cultural exchanges between the two countries have developed steadily, with constant visits by ministerial-level cultural delegations. In January 1996, the two countries signed the "Protocol on Cultural Cooperation between the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Culture of the Union of Myanmar" in Beijing. The two countries have conducted extensive cooperation and exchanges in the fields of literature, art, film, journalism, education, religion, archeology, books and other fields. The Buddha Tooth Relic, a Chinese national treasure, was invited to Myanmar four times in 1955, 1994, 1996 and 2011, and was warmly welcomed by the Myanmar government and all walks of life. In 2013, China assisted Myanmar in hosting the Southeast Asian Games and provided technical support for the opening and closing ceremonies, which was a complete success. In 2014, the Burmese-style pagoda donated by Myanmar was completed at the White Horse Temple in Luoyang. China is assisting Myanmar in repairing pagodas damaged by the earthquake in Bagan.
